Jaw-dropping Photosynth DEMO

Photosynth is a truly innovative technology that will drive the semantic web (web 3.0). Its architect, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, shows it off in a standing-ovation demo. Using photos of often snapped subjects (like Notre Dame) scraped from around the Web, Photosynth (based on Seadragon technology) creates breathtaking multidimensional spaces with zoom and navigation features that outstrip all expectation. We look forward to seeing how bright minds leverage this amazing technology to provide connections among user generated data sets.

that is truly incredible. I wonder what the commercial applications of this will be.

  2. I met Blaise last year - spent 2 hours with him talking about Photosynth over lunch. Amazing guy….

Mel tell more. When are we going to be seeing this in applications we can use?

  4. Wow, this is truly remarkable. It will be interesting to see what people are going to make out of it once it is ready for prime time.

There are actually two components to what he showed in the demos. The visual component, which is is not only looking good, but also practical. I hope the Google guys have a look at it and make my Picasa web albums load in a timely fashion hehe.

The second component is the designer, which allows the creation of those visuals. They must use some sort of pattern recognition technology, because I don’t believe that they connected all those Flickr images by hand :).

You are a visual guy too, right Peter? ;)
That’s why did you also like the video of the PC demo that I uploaded to Facebook. It’s also available on Google Video btw. in higher resolution.

Best would be of course to download the demo from their website or scene.org and run it on your own PC, in high-res and in real-time too, just like Photosynth hehe
