Thought of the day: A good fisherman goes out of his way to bait his hook with what the fish prefer

fishingKindness.jpgJust as in a conversation it’s a good idea to listen more than you talk, it is also wise in relationships to think about the well-being of others more than you think about your own wishes and desires. When you constantly strive to treat others in the same way you would like them to treat you, you become a person whom others like to be around, one who commands their respect, confidence, and loyalty. When you learn to manage emotions and your ego, and when you learn to always consider the needs and desires of others, it is inevitable that you will “bait your hook” with kindness and consideration, and catch more friends than you can count.

The IAB Affiliate Marketing Guide

5 Star Affiliate Marketing Blog posted yesterday that the trade association for the Internet marketing industry, the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) in the UK has produced an Affiliate Marketing Guide

The Affiliate Window blog contributed several case studies and provides an overview of the guide. They also state that there will be more information like this coming from IAB UK (where is the IAB USA?)

iab.jpgThe guide works as a great introduction and overview of the industry; packed with information, advice and case studies. The handbook highlights tried & tested techniques and strategies that will help brands successfully manage an affiliate marketing program.

The content is provided by members of the Affiliate Marketing Council (AMC), all of whom work in the affiliate industry and have a wealth of knowledge to share on the subject.

This is an important step as the growing affiliate markets abroad start to grow fast on the heels of the bigger US market. The case studies findings are applicable to both markets best practices. We just wonder why the IAB in the good old USA has not done this much earlier to support our affiliate markets in the States. It is very important that we support, educate and empower our marketing community so that publishers and advertisers have good experiences using affiliate marketing. How about a little more IAB USA support and collaboration with IAB UK? Our markets have less boarders every day. Thank you for this great start. More please!

Social Network Fatigue and the Remixable Web

facebook-01.gifI have been thinking about the future of our daily Online lives and the growing issue of social network fatigue. How do we best optimize our time so that we can participate in the growing universe of horizontal and vertical networks? Technology and communication innovations have allowed us to do 3x more a day than we could do 10 years ago. Now the social web allows us to connect and extend our Online lives in the way we did in our offline lives only a few years ago. The two questions on my mind are “What is the next solution to allow us to participate in multiple networks in a meaningful way?” and “Where do we as human beings hit a wall and run out of consumption bandwidth”?

Here is an interesting video about this issue and an interesting solution. DataPortability gathers existing open standards into a blueprint for a social, open, remixable web where your Online identity, media, contacts and content can follow you wherever you go. (Find out more at dataportability.org)

We at MediaTrust  have just put our first foot forward into the new world of open portable networks. We have integrated  our development partner ELC Technologies OpenSocial Container Plug-in Support to our bookQube site that is in beta. I will post udates on how things unfold with this open network solution. We are one of the first few to put our toe in the water!

Web 3.0’s first step “the twining”

I have been waiting for this first semantic baby-step. Ever since my first glimpse of the idea of the semantic web or “the thinking web” (a much more elegant term, we need to move away from .0’s), I have believed that this is the ultimate next big step towards what is the real meaning of the “interactive intelligent web”.

Web 2.0 was just a lily-pad that we needed to hop across to accelerate the fragmentation and adoption of interactive media. Social media has pushed us to the point of no return. We now need intelligent technology and tools that enable users to be able to put it back together again in way that allows us to search, find, consume, and share in a new way… To have what we want,  when we want. Mass media is now “Me Media,” clutter free… and here it is after a long anticipated time to Beta. Our first-born semantic baby: Twine. This is a great video piece with Nova Spivack, CEO of Radar Networks demonstrating his new Twine service which intelligently goes way beyond other Web bookmarking and collecting tools. It is unlike anything in existence. It’s about time for the beginning of the next round of true innovation.

Thought of The Day : Success Attracts Success And Failure Attracts Failure Because Of The Law Of Harmonious Attraction.

uploaded-file-20055This is a simple yet very powerful human capital principal that is based on the principle of being able to “conceive & manifest”. A good practice for individuals and teams in a company of any size:

“In physics, positives attract negatives and vice versa, but in human relationships the opposite is true. Negative people attract only other negative people, while positive thinkers attract like-minded individuals. You will find that when you begin to achieve success more successes will follow. This is the law of harmonious attraction. When riches begin to come your way, you’ll be amazed how quickly they accumulate. Train your mind to visualize yourself acquiring a specific amount of wealth or achieving a certain goal-whatever you most desire. Then use self-suggestion to persuade your subconscious mind that you can achieve your goal, and put your plan into action. When you use the tools that you have at your disposal to prepare yourself for success and visualize yourself as having already reached your objective, you can achieve any reasonable goal that you set for yourself.”

Web Analytics To Measure Your Success!

by Carsten Cumbrowski

searchengine_small.jpgWeb analytics are critical for your online business success. Learn why you need it, what it does and what your options are.

If you operate a commercial website, knowing where your visitors are coming from and how they are using your website is more than just nice-to-have information. It can make the difference between success and failure in today’s Internet business world.

Your web server log has tons of useful information, but that log-file in its raw format is impractical for frequent analysis and statistics. Good web analytics solutions provide you with the tools to generate useful and understandable reports from the huge amount of raw data collected by your web server. It will also provide a visual interface and insightful reports that make sense at a glance.

Learn who your visitors are, where they are coming from, how they use your site, and where they go when they leave. Find problem areas in the conversion funnel, and check whether changes you implement have the desired effects. Tracking their behavior will help you determine hotspots and weak areas of your site, and to check whether your search, marketing and landing pages convert or require improvement.

A good web analytics program or solution literally shows marketers why visitors do what they do, and can help bring up structural (Information Architecture) defects in your user interface as well. It is perfect for those interested in PPC marketing, SEO, web design, and usability. It is also extremely helpful for those with e-commerce storefronts, including direct support for “Yahoo! Stores” and “Miva Merchant”.

Website analytics solutions are available as either a hosted solution or log-file processing software. There is a right solution for everyone - choose the one that best fits your needs and business size.

There are some solutions available for no cost. However, free does not always mean free. With most paid solutions your highly sensitive and valuable data is accessible only to you. How much is your data worth to you? You have the choice and I have already made mine.

With a paid solution, you also get something that you would not get from any free service - online seminars (often at no additional charge) to learn how to make the most of the web analytics solution from the comfort of your own desk. This is especially valuable for people who have little experience with web analytics software, but even veterans will likely learn a trick or two.

There are a large number of web analytics solutions available, for little to no cost, expensive enterprise solutions and everything in between. There is no “perfect” web analytics solution for everybody, but chances are very good that there is one that is perfect for your needs and your budget.
