Podcasting for Business and Pleasure

Who says business and pleasure can’t mix? Festivals such as the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) feature a broad array of international and independent films. In fact, the SBIFF attracts more than 43,000 visitors each year, and provides 11 days of films, seminars, symposiums and parties.
However, many more would love to experience independent artistic and cultural events than can attend. This is where new media technologies, such as podcasting and videocasting, can be brought to play. At a relatively low cost, the event can be presented live or edited on the Internet. This clearly broadens the range of people who can attend, at least virtually.
Recognizing this, the SBIFF engaged MediaTrust’s Search and Social Media Optimization Division to drive event traffic online. It was a smart move- the festival counted more than 700,000 podcast downloads resulted from the 2007 event alone.
So how can you make this technology work for you?
- Review the SBIFF case study for the challenges, opportunities and solutions associated with this successful campaign.
- Visit sites such as PodcastPickle.com and PodcastAlley.com to explore the nuts and bolts of how it all works. Podcast411.com, run by podcast consultant Rob Walch, contains great tutorials and interviews with other podcasters to give you an idea of what they’re doing.
- Finally, think creatively, entertain your audience, and have fun. If you do podcasting right, you will quickly build your brand online and people will remember your name.
